FAQs

Q:  What size skip do I need?

A: Our specially-designed skips are available to hire in 3 sizes; 8 tonne skips, 5 tonne skips and 3 tonne skips.  We can also offer  a 16 yard container for wood and light waste or an enclosed, lockable skip, perfect for city centre jobs and hospital work

If you are unsure about the size of skip you may need we are happy to help.  Just give us a call and let us know what you need to skip for and we will advise you of the best skip for your purposes.

Q: Where can my skip be put?

A:  Your skip can be dropped on your driveway, garden or even on the road outside your house (A permit is required for a skip on a public highway, which we can organise for you).  Skips for commercial purposes can be dropped at your business location, office or factory.  For contractors and builders we also offer a waste disposal service for customer locations.

Q. I want the skip to go on my drive. how much space do I need?

A: A skip needs to allow for a 9ft entrance and is up to 11.2 feet long.  Most drives will be of a suitable size, but you should also consider the quality of the drive surface as the lorries that deliver and collect the skips are very heavy!  If you don’t have a drive or can’t get a skip on your drive then you may need to consider the road.  A permit is required for a skip on a public highway, which we can organise for you.

Q:  I don’t have a drive and can’t put the skip on my garden.  Do I need permission from the Council to put it on the road, grass verge or pavement?

A:  Yes.  You will need a permit from the Council but, don’t worry, we can organise this for you.

Q: What if I cannot get a skip license?

A: If you have a problem getting a skip license, we can offer a wait and load service, where the driver will wait while you load the skip. Please contact us for further information.’

Q: Is there anything I cannot put into a skip?

A: Yes, in accordance with current legislation, batteries, electrical appliances, fridges, fridge freezers and air conditioning units, fluorescent light tubes, paints (including residues inside paint cans), asbestos, fire extinguishers, gas bottles, solvents, aerosols, liquids, oil, fuel and other automotive fluids, plasterboard,  tyres, tv monitors, clinical or medical waste and toxic materials are cannot be put in a skip.  If any of these items are found in one of our skips the skip will be returned to the address in question and fines may be incurred.

Q:  Are there any skip loading requirements?

A:  The only requirement is that you don’t overload the skip.

Q:  What area do you cover?

A:  We will deliver and collect skips within the Sheffield and Rotherham areas, from Dore in the South to Wombwell in the North and from Low Bradfield in the West to Todwick in the East.  For more information on our skip hire coverage area please click here.  Alternatively, if you are unsure if we are able to deliver a skip to you then please give us a call.

Q. How long can I keep my skip for?

A: No-one wants to keep a full skip, so we normall collect 3 tonne skips after three days and larger skips after a week.  However, building projects, we know, can take longer, so, should you want your skip for a longer period, just let us know.

Q:  How do I book a skip?

A: You can book your skip online, here on our website or over the phone on 0114 246 9999 for skip hire in Sheffield and Rotherham.

Q: Can you collect my skip on a certain date?

A: Yes. To make our business as eco-friendly (and competitive) as possible, we arrange collections around our deliveries.  However, if it’s importrant that your skip has gone by or on a certain day, please let us know.

Q:  How much notice do I need to give?

A:  24 hours is ideal for deliveries and exchanges of skips, however, we pride ourselves on excellent service, so if you call us in the morning we can usually get to you the same day in a local area.  During busy times, such as bank holidays, it may be advisable to order your skip in advance.

Q:  What happens to my waste after it is taken away in a skip?

A: All your waste is brought back to our waste recycling facility where it is separated and treated. It is then disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Our state-of-the art recycling centre means we’re able to recycle 93% of the waste we collect.
